Official Launch of Ajira Digital Skills Club at Rongo University: Empowering the Next Generation of Digital Talent

On October 6, 2023, Rongo University proudly inaugurated the Ajira Digital Skills Club at the Graduation Square. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between job demand and skills supply in higher education institutions across Kenya.

Ajira Club: A Beacon for Skill Development and Job Creation

Under the guidance of Dr. James Abila, Head of the ICT Department at Rongo University and the club’s patron, the Ajira Club is committed to fostering a proactive community. The club aligns with the Ajira Digital Program’s mission to enable one million young Kenyans to tap into digital job opportunities.

Tackling Youth Unemployment Through Digital Skills

Dr. Abila emphasized the club’s role in mitigating youth unemployment by promoting online work. “The Ajira Club is not just a club; it’s a movement aimed at empowering our youth to become self-reliant through digital jobs,” he said.

A Word from the Club Chairperson, Jimmycarter Makutwa

Jimmycarter Makutwa, the Chairperson of the Ajira Club and a fourth-year student from the School of Education, outlined the club’s training programs. “We offer courses in Data Entry, Virtual Assistance, Graphic Design, AI Training, Software Development, Cybersecurity, and Mobile App Development,” Makutwa stated.

Simple Requirements, Big Rewards

To benefit from Ajira’s training programs, students need only a mobile phone or laptop, internet access, and basic computer skills. “The primary challenge students face is a lack of IT skills, and that’s precisely where Ajira Club steps in,” Makutwa added.

Special Guests

The event was graced by the presence of the Dean of Students, Mr. Ben Asugo, along with other esteemed trainers from the Ajira Digital Program.
