RONGO UNIVERSITY HOLDS ITS FIRST INAUGURAL LECTURE.

Rongo University  on Thursday, 14th April,2022,recorded an history for holding its first Inaugural lecture since it got its charter in the year 2016.

The chief guest during the event was Prof. Joash Barrack Okeyo- Owuor. ( Ph. D, EBS)

Other guests who attended the event were;

  1. Samuel Gudu – Vice chancellor Rongo University.
  2. Rachel Masake – Chairperson, Rongo University council.
  3. Peter Kisino
  4. Joseph Aguyo.
  5. Stanley Shitote.
  6. George Ochiri.
  7. Deans, H.o.Ds ,lecturers and support staff from different departments.

Prof. J.B.Okeyo-Owuor has conducted extensive research and community- based conservation activities in the Nyando Wetland, Kisumu County ,Kenya. During the lecture he presented knowledge so far generated on ecosystem dynamics, the wealth and prospects for sustainable management and wise use of the wetlands.

Prof. J.B. Okeyo- owuor added that despite the ecological resilience of the wetland, it is currently threatened by numerous human activities and climate change, among others. In this lecture the key research outputs and conservation activities are described and prospects  for sustainable management are critically examined.

Prof. J.B in one of his books entitled “ THE NYANDO WETLANDS OF LAKE VICTORIA BASIN: ECOSYSTEMS DYNAMICS, WEALTH AND CASE FOR SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT, reviews and presents a wide range of research findings on the Wetland, provides suggestions for capacity building and existing opportunities for even more detailed research that will lead to in sustainable management and wise use of other wetlands in Lake Victoria Basin.

Towards the end of the event, Prof. J.B and his lovely wife Mrs. Mary were gifted for setting the pace for the great Rongo University and also for being mentors to many intellects in the institution.
