Rongo University in Brief

Rongo University is a legal entity Chartered in October 2016. The University has a functional leadership, offers quality academic and mentorship programmes, has partnered with industry, entrenched sustainability and resource mobilization strategies in its operations.  The University is a centre of excellence in training students to thrive and to lead in a rapidly changing world thus becoming the frontier of academic and intellectual discovery in the region.

Currently, Rongo University has a student population of 6,244. The students here experience different opportunities to shape up and promote their wholesome development as scholars, entrepreneurs, employees, and productive members of society. To achieve this, the University has ensured that all academic programmes have a component of either field attachment or industrial attachment or teaching practice and practicals. In addition, our students can exploit their full potential in recreational and other co-curricular activities such as music, drama, sports and games.

The University has attracted research grants amounting to over Ksh. 100 million annually and coordinated the successful implementation of the projects. The University was selected as a center of excellence in food security by the Lake Region Economic block. Rongo is an exemplar institution in staff and students exchange and fellowship programmes with top global universities such as the University of Brighton, UK, Wuhan Textile University, China, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, China, Peacetech lab, USA, the Macknight Foundation and UNESCO .

Since Universities are currently expected to enhance the standard of living in the communities they operate in, Rongo University has enriched the locality through community outreach and corporate social responsibility activities. Accordingly, we hold regular trainings to the gold miners, farmers, small-scale entrepreneurs, bodaboda riders on key development issues such as table banking, reproductive health, access to finance, among others. The University will continue to enhance its community and outreach programmes in the next five years as promised in the 2022/2027 strategic period.
