His Lordship Rt. Rev. Michael Odiwa, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Homabay visited Rongo university on 1st June 2021. The Bishop was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Pius Odhiambo – The Chaplain St. Vincent De Paul Chaplaincy, Rev. Fr. Joshua Mege – The Communication Director Catholic Diocese of Homabay, and Rev. Fr. Patrick Marceline Ochieng – The Priest in charge of Rakwaro Parish and Rv. Fr. Benard Obwaya – Assistant parish priest Rakwaro Parish.

During the visit, the Bishop was received by the Rongo university management led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel Gudu. Also present were staff members, students, and the Catholic faithful from St. Martin De Pores Catholic Church Kitere.

The Bishop thanked the University for the Transformative Role it’s playing in the diocese and the whole country. He assured the university of his continued prayers and partnership whenever called upon.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the Bishop for visiting the university and seconding a Chaplain to support the university in providing psychological and spiritual care to the students and staff.

The bishop also led the Catholic Students Association (St. Vincent De Paul Chaplaincy) in the Eucharistic celebration. During Mass, the Bishop gave 30 students the Sacrament of confirmation and also blessed the finalist students.
