NCIC Awards Rongo University for Promoting and Enhancing National Unity and Integrity

Rongo University was privileged to be awarded a certificate of excellence in the field of national, cohesion and integrity on 4th April 2024.This was after its exemplary performance noted by the National Cohesion and Integrity Commission (NCIC).
The event which took place at Rongo University’s Multipurpose Hall (MPH) was officially graced by Rongo University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Gudu. In attendance were Prof. Daniel Tarus, Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration Finance and Planning, Prof Michael Ntabo, Academic Student Affairs (ASA), Chairperson of the committee, Dr. Lameck Rongo, guests trainers on cohesion, organizers of the event and staff from the same institution.
 
Speaking at the event, Prof Gudu explained the importance of embracing cohesion in an institution and society at large and we should be guided by the principles of an institution and not our cultural differences nor backgrounds.
 
“We should always interact freely with one another without fear and be in position to work in any ground because we’re one community. I have worked in different universities outside Luo land regardless of me being from this background. I have worked in Kisii University, Nairobi University and also Moi University right from 1987-2012 and you know what, I did successfully, ” Prof Gudu started off.
 
He insisted on making Rongo University united as one community encouraging staff members to lead by example and demonstrate values such as tolerance, empathy and compassion in the interaction with colleagues and wider community.
Trainers from executive office of the president, directorate of national of cohesion and values we ushered in to give their points of view as long as national cohesion and values is concerned.
Mr Peter Mose one of the trainer in the event, emphasized the importance of having building unity in the institution or community at large, coming from different backgrounds should not limit people from sharing and interacting. That’s how strong foundations are laid and national values are the one will make society to identify themselves.
 
“Having strong national cohesion and values can be a sure way of resolving conflicts peacefully and constructively, to maintain harmony in the workplace and society. Unrest which is always experienced in institutions can be avoided through encouraging national values to exist in the institution and educating students on the same, ” Mr Mose said.
 
“Society or rather institution should not perceive other people wrong and painting stereotypes on them. I’m advocating for fair treatment from one person to another – there’s always a constructed notion in the society that someone cannot perform somewhere that’s just false and we exist owning different abilities that can add value in the society, ” Mr Mose stressed.
 
Second trainer, Richard Ronoh, touched on factors necessity for the attainment of national cohesion and integration such as practicing what is in the paper this avoiding ignorance, equitable sharing of national resources and he made it clear that sometimes we need law enforcement to ensure this happens.
 
“It’s crucial to have integrity, honesty and ethical behavior in all professional dealing because these contributes to the overall wellbeing of the society, ” Mr Ronoh said.
“National cohesion and integration endovors to create an equitable society where all citizens have a shared vision, a sense or belonging and appreciation of diversity, ” He added.
 
Dr. Lameck Ronoh Dean School of Infocoms and also the chairperson of the Committee, emphasized the importance of continuous learning and self-reflection in deepening understanding of national cohesion and values, and encouraged staff to actively seek opportunities for further education and growth in they should foster that in the society.
“We should be in position to create inclusive environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and included regardless of their background. We are coming from different cultural backgrounds and we must act as a team and forget about our differences and through that, it’s growing arena for us, ” Dr Ronoh said.
